Megapixel cameras can provide a radically higher resolution image than traditional analogue systems. Whilst not the only factor in providing excellent CCTV image quality, recording at a greater resolution means more information is captured in a single frame. When compared to a traditional analogue D1 image (720 x 576), a 1.3 megapixel image (1280 x 960) captures 3x the pixels, whereas a 2.0 megapixel image (1920 x 1080) captures over 5x the pixels.

This increase in information results in better resolved shapes, sharper object edges and preservation of fine details. It is this information that can make the difference between usable and unusable footage. View each footage sample below to see the difference a megapixel system can make for you.
*Be sure to watch each video in its maximum resolution.

vipvisioncam

Beyond 1080p Full HD
The VIP Vision 3.0 megapixel vandal resistant mini dome camera recording 3.0MP at 10fps (2048 x 1536). Observe fine details in the separation in the tree leaves and definition of the number plate.

watchguardcam

720p HD Recording
The Watchguard 1.3 megapixel weatherproof mini bullet camera is capable of recording 1.3MP at 25fps (1280 x 960). Here it is recording at 720p (1280 x 720) at 25fps. While not as sharp as the 3.0MP, plenty of detail is still visible.

Conventional Analogue Recording
A typical analogue system recording at CIF resolution (352 x 288). It is difficult to distinguish between small objects and fine details, such as the number of the truck, are lost completely. Even in ideal conditions, only large shapes are clear enough to identified accurately.
