Low glare ~ High productivity

Re-energise your work space with low glare lighting

Create productive work environments with the new standard in low glare, flicker free office lighting.

Glare can be visually distracting and can fatigue the eyes which over time lowers the ability to see detail. Discomfort glare is caused by light sources or luminaires whose luminance is greater than the eye can adapt to.

The degree of discomfort glare depends on several factors:

  • The luminance and the size of the glare source
  • The position of the glare source in relation to the line of sight
  • The background luminance against which the glare source is viewed.

The Unified Glare Rating (UGR) as recommended by the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) has become widely accepted as a general formula for assessing glare.

The UGR glare index for discomfort glare is ranked on a scale from 13 to 28 where the higher the glare index the higher the level of glare.

The below table shows the recommended levels of glare in relation to different working environments.

Glare can be controlled and reduced in a number of ways. The goal is to limit the luminance of the source in the direction of the eye; This includes glare from artifical light sources and daylight glare.

  • The source can be screened from direct view;
  • Re-position your workstation so the glare source is not in your field of view;
  • Increase the luminance of the background against which the glare source is seen:
  1. Use luminaires with an uplight component.
  2. Positioning the luminaire closer to the walls in the room.
  3. The walls can be lit separately or use a higher reflective wall surface.

  4. These linkable LED cabinet lights are ideal for this application. They are easily installed, linked together and are available in warm or cool white.
